Season Greetings!

As we look at saying goodbye to 2018 and welcoming in 2019, I am reminded that for many who come in contact with Safe Harbor, we are their only connection for having a “Happy Holiday”.  Everyone we serve has a story, and they are part of a community we create at Safe Harbor to provide a sense of belonging and the assurance that everyone does have a place at the table.  The staff and volunteers at Safe Harbor value each person who comes through our doors, and we strive to see the gifts in the heart of every single person, while they improve their lives at our shelter.

I am also reminded that the thing that really connects us is when we give of ourselves.  During this “season of giving” we need to remember that giving brings so much more happiness than receiving.  When you donate to Safe Harbor, you are giving a warm bed, hot food, fellowship, support, guidance, and community to a homeless man or woman or a hungry member of our neighborhood.  This holiday, Safe Harbor is their home and your support is their gift. Together, we are their community.

Our goal for every shelter resident is to support them so they don’t have to worry about where their next meal is coming from or if they are going to have to sleep on the street. Your generous gift helps them not have to worry about these necessities and allow them the freedom to focus on getting their life back in order and work toward permanent housing.  Your donation enables a homeless person to regain hope for a better life and helps them to leave homelessness in their past. My hope for 2019 is that we are all a little kinder to our neighbors. I hope that we may inspire young people to get involved, to teach them that they can change the world they live in for the better.  We must lead by example.  I am blessed to see those examples every day when I come to work at Safe Harbor.  Thank you to all of you who inspire me!
