TO SUPPORT THE HOMELESS IN CHESTER COUNTY
Kildare’s Pub is donating its construction site art mural to a local shelter to raise money for the homeless.
July 15, 2020, WEST CHESTER, PA – A sidewalk blockade near Kildare’s Pub was erected to protect pedestrians during construction and was transformed into a beautiful and poignant piece of street art and it is being donated to Safe Harbor of Chester County, a homeless shelter, for auction.
Kildare’s Pub in West Chester, PA has donated this amazing piece of street art to Safe Harbor of Chester County to help them raise money for the homeless in Chester County. The mural is a 12’ x 12’ sectioned plywood wall that was erected in 2019, to close off the sidewalk as new construction is being built on the corner of Gay and Church street in downtown West Chester. The owners of Kildare’s Pub, Dane and Stephanie Gray, decided to paint a mural on the barricade to make it a bit more pleasant to look at for their patrons. They originally painted a street scene of West Chester but as time went on, their depiction of Gay street was updated to reflect the current times. This work of art was originally painted by Jodie Schaeffer and then updated by some of the Kildare’s staff who are local artists and art teachers. Their special touch added the Rainbow flag, the racial unity hands, a COVID-19 recognition, the local #worldofhearts campaign and the Black Lives Matter movement. As our world has adapted and changed during 2020, so has this mural. What was once a simple street scene painting is now a complete story of our current times. The construction is slated to be over soon, and the mural will be coming down to make way for pedestrians. So, the Gray’s wanted to donate to Safe Harbor to help them raise money to support the homeless.
The auction begins on Wednesday, July 15 at 6 PM and ends on Saturday 7/25 at 9 PM. The auction uses secure mobile-based software that will allow someone to use their cell phone to register, then place a bid, and then, you will receive a text if you are outbid by another participant. Which then you can bid again right from your cell phone. Complete and easy to follow instructions can be found at www.safeharborofgwc.org.
The winning bidder does not have to disassemble the mural, but they will have to pick it up, transport it and reassemble themselves.
